As I already said in the bug report, I could reproduce the issue on
one of my amd64 (Linux) systems. However, it does not fail on every
attempt.

I guess you won't find a machine where it fails on every attempt. In
principal, I could give you access to the amd64 box where I can
reproduce the issue. Unfortunately, the machine is behind DSL with
dynamic IP, so granting access is not exactly trivial.

At least for the wheezy release, this sounds like a sane approach to
me - as long as nobody reports a hang in a real-world scenario.
