The failures seem to be related to these log entries:

 flAbsPath on /var/lib/apt/var/lib/dpkg/status failed - realpath (2: No such file or directory)
 Could not open file  - open (2: No such file or directory)
 Problem opening 
 The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.

which suggests this is #833656.
