Why don't you tell the user what the error message was?!

Some 404s are different than others!

$ feh http://example.com/
feh WARNING: open url: The requested URL returned error: 404
feh - No loadable images specified.
Use feh --help for detailed usage information
$ lynx http://example.com/
Alert!: HTTP/1.0 404 WWWOFFLE Will Get
$ HEAD http://example.com/
404 WWWOFFLE Will Get
