okay... when we do get around to including the patch i'll come find you
and get you to help test it on your production systems for us :)

yeah... there's no reason to patch both configure and configure.in,
that's kinda silly really.  i think as it is we're already regenerating
the configure script as part of the build process, so nothing to lose
putting an additional change in configure.in from what i can tell.

anyway i'm on vacation right now and am doing mostly stuff limited to
email exchanges, but depending on when etch gets released i could see
this showing up in either experimental or unstable sometime in late
january.
