I don't understand the holdup with PDO. Even php.net says that PDO is enabled by default, so people who compile PHP themselves from the upstream dist will get it by default. Best source I've found for binary PHP packages is dotdeb, http://packages.dotdeb.org/dists/sarge/php5/
