i'm not opposed to the notion, especially since this will be where most
of the upstream effort will be focused now.  we still need to update the
systz patch to solve #535770 (the latest patch provided by joe seems to
work okay[1]), but i haven't heard of any other problems.

[1] i'm not incredibly happy with the level of complexity but there doesn't
    seem to be a whole lot that we can do about it.
