okay, but please turn it back on when you're done. i realize that not
everyone is a fan of spending hours banging heads with git to get their
commits nice and shiny (even though it's so fun!), so when i have a
chance i'll write up some short cheat notes on how to easily split out
the commits for the next time it happens. but i think it's really
important to have this in place as a general rule to keep our changes
cherry-pick'able.

oh, and if you get a chance, could you do yet another refresh of the
quilt patches, but with the following settings?

QUILT_PATCHES=debian/patches
QUILT_NO_DIFF_TIMESTAMPS=1
QUILT_DIFF_OPTS=-p
QUILT_NO_DIFF_INDEX=1

it keeps the patches a bit cleaner and more legible, and reduces the noise
when we need to update the patches. if you don't get around to it i'll
take care of it next week.

thanks!
