Ok, thanks for clarifying.

Have you two considered co-maintaining the package with the person who 
submitted the ITP? the three of you are interested on the package, and if two 
is already better than one, three is way better than one single person.

I'm not an ftpmaster, but pusing a new package into the archive as an NMU 
doesn't sound good.
