Try this simple test,
# i=0; while ! php</dev/null;do : $((i++)); done; echo $i
...

on some runs it takes less, some more.

All my shell scripts that use any php one-liners are failing...
needlessly too, as they do their job, but then they segfault, most of
the time.

Such a problem in perl would not have existed for so long.
I rebooted. No help.
