I tend to think otherwise. I believe if you want people to migrate to
the new system, you'd better write a lintian check, and declare the old
system as the wrong way, so this forces everyone to move on with the new
system.

That being said, you can "fall back" to have it to continue working,
with big warnings on screen, but I wouldn't write that we should
"support" an old thing if you are writing something new.
