I was wondering whether this rewrite is still continuing?  Any progress
that shows hope for the future?

Agreed.

Same here.  Tom, maybe you can bring this up with upstream and have them
keep an eye on XML_Parser2 and switch to it when it is good enough?
It seems there are not too many reverse depends on php-xml-parser, so
this switch shouldn't be too hard, eventually.

I already noticed you filed the ITPs, thanks for working on that! :)
