Bug#593664: crashes when started (using snd_hda_intel)

Package: pulseaudio
Version: 0.9.21-3
Severity: normal

Strange. If I play some sound, for example some flash video in
Iceweasel, then pulseaudio is suddenly spawned correctly:

 5694 ? Ssl 0:00 /usr/bin/pulseaudio --start --log-target=syslog
 5695 ? S 0:00 \_ /usr/lib/pulseaudio/pulse/gconf-helper

There's nothing in the syslog nor anything interesting in dmesg. What
could be going on? Is the gnome volume applet doing something which
causes pulseaudio to crash? As long as Iceweasel displays the page with
the flash video, the volume applet works correctly. As soon as the sound
device is released (Iceweasel closed), the behaviour turns back to
pulseaudio being continously spawned and crashes.
