Hi!

Thanks for your interest! I'm probably the main point of contact for
RT packaging in Debian; new contributions are always welcomed and
it would certainly be appropriate to create a Debian package of
rt-extension-ldapimport.

Your message prompted me to start writing up a bit about how RT
extensions are packaged:

https://wiki.debian.org/RequestTrackerPackaging
https://wiki.debian.org/RequestTrackerPackaging/Extensions

It's far from complete but hopefully gives some hints about other
extensions to look at for examples. I'm currently in the process
of packaging rt-extension-assets which you can find at

http://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/pkg-request-tracker/rt-extension-assets.git

(the packaging is essentially complete apart from the database
integration which from a quick look probably won't apply to
RT-Extension-LDAPImport).

If you're a complete beginner to Debian packaging, you might find

https://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/maint-guide/

useful. I'd be pleased to have such a package of rt-extension-ldapimport
in Debian and maintained as part of the pkg-request-tracker team, not
least because I may need it myself in the foreseeable future...

The first step is to file an RFP or ITP bug:

https://www.debian.org/devel/wnpp/

I suggest you prepare your package using git - if you need somewhere to
host a public git repository, especially if you think you would like to
help with ongoing maintenance, we can add you to the pkg-request-tracker
group on Alioth[1]. Alternatively, upload packages to

http://mentors.debian.net/

and drop a note on this mailing list. Either way, once you/we prepare a
package which is good, me or another DD can sponsor it into Debian.

We don't really have an active IRC channel at the moment but I'm usually
on IRC (nick 'Dom') if you want to get in touch that way - there's also
the offical #rt channel on irc.perl.org.

Cheers,
Dominic.
