I actually like this idea. X.org is switching to individual subsystem
maintainers who are responsible for their piece of the puzzle, and the
kernel people seem to do this too (although I'm not sure about our kernel
team). I think it'd benefit us as well and give people a sense of ownership
within the team. Plus it'd resolve the issues with alioth rejecting posts
from non-subscribers.
