Hey all,
I have just uploaded a new ruby-pkg-tools package (version 0.8) to sid.
This will arrive there tomorrow. This upload entails some changes that
must be made in your packages!
The changes:
* The semantics of the Maintainer and Uploaders field have been changed.
The Maintainer field will contain the person who is kindof
'responsible' for the package. At the moment this is probably the
person that brought the package under team maintenance. The Uploaders
field will contain the team list as it always has.
This means that everyone has to change the Maintainer field in the
next upload. I suggest that everyone performs this change in their
packages really soon so that we can oversee which package has no
responsible person (yet) and assign someone.
* The team field name that is expanded in the control.in file has
changed from @RUBY_TEAM@ to @RUBY_EXTRAS_TEAM@ (not blocking the
existence possible future Ruby team). As of r-p-t 0.8 the use of
@RUBY_TEAM@ is deprecated and the substitution will not be performed
anymore in version 0.10 or 1.0 (which ever comes first). Note that
the use of the @RUBY_EXTRAS_TEAM@ variable requires that a versioned
Build-Depend(-Indep) on ruby-pkg-tools (>= 0.8) is set.
So this is a second change that has to be made to the control file.
Please make the changes as soon as you are able to.
* The pkg-ruby-get-sources tool now primarily uses debian/watch to find
and retrieve the upstream tarball. It still looks at the sources
file provided by the package (and online) but use should be avoided.
All packages should get a watch file that allows us to keep track of
new upstream versions as well as retrieve the sources of current or
older packages. In the future use of the sources file will be
deprecated and can no longer be relied on.
Comments and ideas are welcome of course,
Regards,
Paul
