I think the issue is dead. I filed a bug report against ruby1.8 and the
following bug report will explain all that in detail.

The upshot of everything is this:

Don't use libfastthread, ruby1.8 (in Debian) is (already) fixed.

Whoever packages Capistrano should disable the warning about
libfastthread.
