I'm not sure why you think that packaging in the team makes it harder to
have timely updates. We don't do mass-updates of all our packages at the
same time. The main point of the team is to have more eyes watching
your packages, and more hands to fix problems when they occur.

Have you had a look at the ruby-pkg-tools package? The cdbs might be
useful to you even if you don't want your package to be maintained by
the team.
