Hi Christopher (and cc fellow package maintainers),
First of all: Thanks for a _great_ piece of software!!!
I am involved in packaging Compass for Debian, and am currently
preparing an upgrade, where I also improve our packaging to more closely
pay attention to copyright and licensing.
I discovered some issues that makes the current Compass tarball
unsuitable for redistribution with Debian, and I would like to share
with you in case it matters to you as well.
You include the font Museo Sans. Copyright seems missing from your
tarball, but apparently its licensing is
http://www.fontsquirrel.com/license/Museo-Sans where e.g. section 4c
seems to forbid redistribution as part of a larger software product.
You include a bunch of images without references to their origin. Flags
apparently originate from the FamFamFam icons which are free to use but
require attribution. Firefox icon has some restrictions affecting
Debian but possible irrelevant to your use of it. Some images contain
embedded Adobe copyright protected ICC profiles which may be ok for you
to distribute but nevertheless might be interesting to strip (as a space
optimization).
Apart from the Museo Sans font, none of above is outright alarming, just
annoying: For Debian we can amputate the parts in violation of
the Debian Free Software Guidelines, but it would sure be more
elegant if your full sources was usable to us.
Tell me if you are interested in more findings of this kind.
Regards,
- Jonas
