Can I suggest you join the current package development team ?

Subscribing to the Package Tracking System for samba packages could
also be a good idea: see http://packages.qa.debian.org/samba. Then you
would receive all traffic related to bug reports and general package
life.

The list itself is low traffic. The PTS is higher traffic especially
as we'r ein the process of dealing with old bug reports (and there are
a *lot*). I personnally combine both in the same mailbox (procmail
rules available)

The same applies to Sesse, by the way....
