(sorry for not replying in the bug itself. I mostly work offline and I
don't know whether Bugzilla offers a way to interact with bugs by
mail)

Jeremy, does that mean that you'll look at the patch and will try to
come up with a better one or that one of the Debian maintainers should
look closer to it (hint hint: Steve...:-)) and come with a better one?
