Yikes. I never used ucf myself so I'm not really sure that my advice
has some value.

I overread your patch and found nothing awful (are you
surprised?). IMHO, it's probably OK to jump into it an put that nice
piece of work in production.

Indeed, ucf seems pretty cool *and easy* to use.
