[Pkg-samba-maint] samba_3.0.24-2_i386.deb

Sirs,
I have just done a Synaptic update to Etch + got the below error:-

> E: /var/cache/apt/archives/samba_3.0.24-2_i386.deb: subprocess new
> pre-removal script returned error exit status 102

This has left me with "broken dependencies" - it looks like i have the new 
samba-common 3.0.24-2 installed but samba is the old 3.0.23d-4 version.
I have tried to uninstall / uninstall completely  - but get the same error 
message.
Is this a bug?
Would appreciate any advice on getting samba working again.
