One more observation: mounting the filesystem as "sync" makes the bug
disappear... However, the things are pretty slow then, so it's not really a
solution.

So, making the machine slow (either by mounting the fs with "sync", or setting
"log level = 10") makes that this bug does not happen.

Any clues?
