[Pkg-samba-maint] Bug#520012: samba: net rpc vampire sets wrong passwords for machine accounts

G'day,

I encountered the same problem when migrating from NT4 to Lenny. The
machine account entries are created in /etc/passwd, but the NTLM hashes
in the password database are not set. Additionally, the user account
NTLM hashes are invalid so you can't authenticate.

This is described by someone else here:
http://www.nabble.com/Bad-passwords-from-Vampire---NT-migration-td20096650.html

It's fixed in Samba 3.2.6 according to the changelogs.

The workaround I used was (for tdbsam backend):
+ Boot another machine with the GRML live CD.
+ Installed Samba 3.2.8 from here (I see now there are backport packages
on alioth which should work too):
     http://ftp.sernet.de/pub/samba/dists/lenny/main/binary-i386/
+ Joined as BDC and do net vampire.
+ Copied resulting passdb.tdb to the Lenny machine and replaced the
broken passdb.

Regards,
Chris
