Are you sure about that, I thought it was a slightly patched sbuild.
It's easy enough to verify though: Christian, did you upload with the
above alternative build dependency? If so, it looks to build ok on the
unofficial buildds.

Right, I do agree with Steve. Though if you need this packages anyway or
something similar, the better for the users that want/need these :-)

It's not always easy to upgrade, so I think having (official) backports
for etch (and soon lenny) is nice anyway.
