No, they're really just unit tests. 

The other tools in the package can be useful and can be divided into two
categories:

Protocol testers - smbtorture/locktest/masktest are useful for testing
remote SMB servers. Generally you would want the Samba 4 equivalents for
this though, the Samba 3 ones basically haven't been updated since Samba
4 was started). 

Plugin tests - nsstests/vfstest/pdbtest can be useful for people test
plugins for Samba.
