Hello,

Win7 should work with 3.4 also (http://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Windows7)

This is hard to know when 3.4 will goes "discontinued", but it will go
"security fixes only " around July-2010 (when 3.6 will be released).

I agree that going 3.5 for squeeze is preferable.

- http://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Branch_Policy)

Appart from this, there was a major transactional change in ctdb
1.0.109. here is a summary:
- samba 3.4.5 and 3.5.0 doesn't include this change, but should work
with ctdb >= 1.0.109
- samba 3.4.x won't include the change ever (except in obnox branch:
http://git.samba.org/?p=obnox/samba-ctdb.git;a=shortlog;h=refs/heads/v3-4-ctdb)
- samba 3.5.x may include the change but it will probably be after the freeze.

So, ctdb in squeeze will be functionnal but "may have slight
misbehaviour in transactions that 1.0.108 does not have but some older
1.0.106 or so had".

I don't know if i should upload ctdb 1.0.108 with an epoch or stick
with 1.0.111 (or later). Any advice?

(14:38:54) sathieu: hello, are there some incompatibilities between
ctdb and samba versions?
(14:39:42) sathieu: (we will have samba 3.4 or samba 3.5 in debian
squeeze, which ctdb version will work without problem?)
(14:40:30) obnox: sathieu: <= 1.0.108 , I guess
(14:40:55) obnox: i still need to merge the stuff that works with the
new transaction code in >= 1.0.109 to samba upstream...
(14:41:09) sathieu: obnox: oups, I have already uploaded 1.0.111
(14:41:20) obnox: it might still work though
(14:43:13) sathieu: obnox: on which branch will you integrate the new
trans stuff?
(14:43:23) sathieu: s/branch/branches/
(14:43:45) obnox: git://git.samba.org/obnox/samba-ctdb.git -- branch v3-4-ctdb
(14:44:00) obnox: ususally I merge into master regularly when things are tested
(14:44:21) obnox: with the new transaction code, I missed the 3.5
freeze unfortunately
(14:45:54) sathieu: obnox: may it be in 3.5.1 and 3.4.6?
(14:46:03) obnox: 3.4.X no way
(14:47:06) obnox: 3.5: I am not sure: because it is a whole set of
patches, and we require bug reports to be fixed for patches to be
included after 3.Y.0rc1 .... well I could open
(14:47:21) obnox: a bug report for general transaction problems :)
(14:47:26) obnox: i can at least *try*
(14:47:44) obnox: but i am still debugging some stuff
(14:48:01) sathieu: obnox: and if this happen, will samba still work
with ctdb <1.0.108?
(14:48:12) obnox: no
(14:48:31) obnox: the other way round, it will work
(14:49:20) obnox: but current samba against >= 1.0.109 may have slight
misbehaviour in transactions that 1.0.108 does not have
(14:49:30) obnox: (but some older 1.0.106 or so had)
