Yes, I did (post res) actually run a diff of testparm -v between a lenny
domain member server and a squeeze domain member server, and this was one
of a handful of things (i.e. < 5) that came up. Only this one change was
harmful.

So, in short, yes, please do document this change, as I asked above.
I didn't care about other changes because they weren't harmful to me,
so there is no apparent need to document them.

You don't really want this to appear like "Samba upstream are assumed to be
jerks who don't care about your settings, so you absolutely need to
second-guess each and every one of their changes", because that is both
probably untrue and certainly not particularly helpful to our users.

You don't have to do anything extreme, just add a single simple note to
NEWS.Debian saying "Between oldstable and stable, behavior X changed in a
way that may break Y, so if you depend on it, read the new manual".

I fail to see any downside to what I proposed. Is there actually one?
