I wasn't convinced flagging it as an NMU was appropriate given that I was 
packaging a new upstream source, so I didn't do that.

The "package-name-doesnt-match-sonames" error is something the previous 
package had (it's because it uses -release in LDFLAGS rather than 
-version-info).  It's easy to change, but I wasn't sure what the right 
answer was and thus stuck with the previous version's solution.

All of the patches are already in quilt.  The rest of the changes are the 
result of DEB_AUTO_UPDATE_AUTOMAKE regenerating the upstream Makefile.in 
files; I've regenerated the source packages without this problem (sorry 
about that).
