Yes, something like this should do the job.

BTW, the svn r2157 finally builds both on i386 and amd64. If you look
at it, I removed my bad patch and left there your good patch regarding
that python issue. I also fixed the amd64 problem. I also put a short
TODO into the changelog for things, that we need to fix now:

    - make "import paraview" work in "pvpython"
    - man pages to all executables
    - possibly reduce the size of the binary package (100MB currently) by
    linking to things that are in Debian already
