[Pkg-scicomp-devel] libatlas-base-dev and libblas-dev

There's a weird situation going on with the libblas.so provided by the
libblas-dev and the various favours of ATLAS. libblas-dev uses
alternatives but libatlas doesn't. Additionally, I seem to be missing
symlinks in /usr/lib for the soname libblas.so.3gf

The end result is that today when I was trying to debug some Fortran
code for Octave (qrupdate), I had a hard time getting ld.so to link to
the reference BLAS instead of the one provided by ATLAS. Also, I
suspect a bug in ATLAS, because some qrupdate tests fail with ATLAS
but not with the reference BLAS.

Can someone explain to me what is going on with the BLAS
implementations in Debian?
