It seems it's a feature in agetty.

It is minimally documented in agetty(8):

       o      Adapts  the tty settings to parity bits and to erase, kill, end-
              of-line and uppercase characters when it  reads  a  login  name.

Thus I'm merging this bug with an existing one in util-linux which ask for a
better documentation of that feature.
