I do not know the state of postgresql 8.3, so I can not give an advice
there.  But I have seen a separate repository on alioth generating
more work and draining a small project of its work hours, that I
personally believe is better spent at working with the existing Debian
infrastructure instead of setting up ones own.  I realise that in some
cases it make sense, but am not convinced it is the case for this
package.

Anyway, I am not going to do the work anyway, so I leave the decision
on how to do it totally up to you.  :)
