I wanted to look into Debian bug #347624. So I looked at
dehs.alioth.debian.org, which has a link to svn.debian.org.  I tried
to get a list of the stuff available from that service with "svn ls
svn.debian.org", but get "svn: '.' is not a working copy". This
message doesn't make sense, since the syntax is "usage: list
[TARGET[@REV]...]". I expect that if an argument is given to the 'ls'
command, that it is either accepted or reported as invalid.

'svn ls' needs a URL for a repository server and path. It can get that
URL in two ways:

 - You specify the whole URL directly:

     $ svn ls svn://svn.debian.org/pkg-subversion/trunk/debian

 - You specify a relative path, and the client interprets this relative
   to the URL of the svn checkout in the current directory:

     $ svn ls debian

   (This is equivalent, if you have previously checked out
   svn://svn.debian.org/pkg-subversion/trunk/ and you are in that
   directory.)

Your command, "svn ls svn.debian.org", didn't specify a URL schema like
"svn://", "http://" or "file://", so it is the second case. Your error
message correctly reflects this.

Peter
