I had to remove systemd because it seems
systemd cannot execute the commands in start/stop scripts
if in these scripts not a daemon gets started.

I mean, a script where only some bash commands are present
without any daemon, will not work under systemd.

Therefore, systemd is unusable for me. Yesterday after diagnosing
(ie. many reboots) why the script doesn't get executed
I came to the conclusion that I need my old sysvinit-behavior back,
so I had to remove systemd in favor of sysvinit.
Now everything works again as it should and was before (ie. in wheezy).
System: debian 8 (jessie)

BTW, some weeks ago I had also to remove the new Gnome desktop,
because it too had become "unusable" for me (too big (gigantomania),
too CPU consuming, too restrictive with reduced options).
I switched to LXDE; works like a charm.

I would suggest Debian should switch back to sysvinit
and also trash Gnome in favor of a lightweight desktop like LXDE.
