At least for stretch (obviously), in stretch+1 we'll most probably add
a check/debconf note for 70-persistent-net.rules and drop our patch
which makes the renaming race more likely to succeed. There's nothing
else to keep supporting beyond that, so as long as people can live
with the race conditions there is no principal limit to how long we
can support the old names as custom names should always be supported.
