* What led up to the situation?

    a.) Upgrading systemd and udev from version 231-9 to
        232-25.

    b.) Trying to play sound.


* What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
  ineffective)?

    a.) root$ dmesg | egrep -i error

        revealled

            cannot find the slot for index 0 (range 0-0), error: -16

    b.) Moved /etc/modprobe.d/sound.conf to a
        temporary directory.

        It contains

            alias snd-card-0 snd-<card>
            options snd-<card> index=0

    c.) Rebooted.

    d.) Tried playing a sound.


* What was the outcome of this action?

a.) Sound.

b.) Note to self: Check how Devuan is coming along.
