I can't follow the details of your discussion, but I'm wondering why this simple bug still exists -- more than two years after it was reported by Andreas Metzler. Surely it's just a warning, but it cost me substantial time to estimate its importance and to find this thread. Thanks to Andreas for the Dec-2004 patch.
