It is not documented because it is an experimental feature that is
intended to change.  When it is working properly and safe to use for
everyone, I plan to make it the default and drop the option
completely.

As for adding more information in /etc/default/rcS, that is not done
to avoid dpkg conffile questions during upgrades.  I believe the best
option is to move the default settings into a non-conffile file, and
thus have only the sysadmin touch the /etc/default/rcS file.
