[Pkg-sysvinit-devel] Bug#539261: sysvinit: Programs which start at the same time should be run in parallel

Package: sysvinit
Version: 2.87dsf-2
Severity: wishlist

If two or more programs are due to be started in the same order, why
not run them at the time to speed up booting especially on multi-cored
CPUs.

e.g.
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 25 2009-07-28 09:20 S16nfs-user-server -> ../init.d/nfs-user-server
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 17 2009-07-28 09:20 S16rsyslog -> ../init.d/rsyslog
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 15 2009-07-28 09:20 S16samba -> ../init.d/samba
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 18 2009-07-28 09:20 S16sysklogd -> ../init.d/sysklogd

These are started one after each other, yet they are all S16, so they can
be started at the same time.
