I am quite busy elsewhere, and have not had time to look at this
issue.  The sysvinit maintainer group is all busy elsewhere, and thus
I suspect we will not find time to look into this in time for squeeze.

I even have not had the time to call for help to make the situation
better.  Perhaps you want to join the team?
