For me it's different, the terminal stays blank.

Since I have a plain shell in the terminal it should echo what I type
but nothing appears.

It's not worthwhile for two reasons. There is no reliable way to
reproduce the issue - the system can go for weeks without this happening
and then it would happen several times in a single day. Second, as I
understand it the perl matcher is used to pick out URLs from text which
I use quite a lot.
