Thanks for this information. It looks like HAL doesn't notice the media
being inserted into the drive--the volume is absent from the device list
in your Philips DVD-R example. As to why this is, that is another
matter. ;)

I've opened a bug upstream; hopefully one of the HAL developers will be
able to advise.
