Hi,

I have lots of computer with authentification via pam-ldap,
with some very old, but also fresh accounts. All are only in "users"
group. Addtitonaly /etc/security/group.conf contains:
 gdm;*;*;Al0000-2400;cdrom,floppy,plugdev,audio,dip,video,fuse,scanner

It is possible that ldap server is not availble in early
stage of botting. I have
 passwd:         compat ldap
 group:          compat ldap
 shadow:         compat
in /etc/nsswitch.conf

In /var/log/auth.log this is raported:
Mar  3 11:12:48 romeo dbus-daemon: nss_ldap: could not search LDAP server - Server is unavailable

but this can be false cause, becouse i was today restarting this
computer, and there was no new log line.

Just after user login to GNOME, popup appear with message
"HAL is not initialised."

but ps aux, shows:

but dbus isn't!

Also gnome-volume-manager is not stared, and trying to run one
ends with error:

$ gnome-volume-manager -n

another problems:

$ dbus-monitor --system

$ hal-device
error: dbus_bus_get: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Did not receive

reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply
timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.


from root user, hal-device is working:

# hal-device | head -2
0: udi = '/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/volume_label_PL_WINXP_1264_2'
  volume.unmount.valid_options = { 'lazy' } (string list)
....



I found only one solution to this problem (i have this problem
[popup in GNOME, and not working usb storage detection for users]
since begining of last year).

# /etc/init.d/dbus restart
Stopping Hardware abstraction layer: hald.
Stopping system message bus: dbus.
Starting system message bus: dbus.
Starting Hardware abstraction layer: hald.
#

After this everything works automagicly.
(Need to relogin, or start gnome-volume-manager manualy)


Any idea why it's not starting, or can have any 
connections with LDAP ?

I can provide additional logs, if needed.
