Package: network-manager-gnome
Version: 0.7.1-1
Severity: important

nm-applet is not showing the wired network on a Dell M1210 laptop[1].
It does manage without problem the wireless device.

The device is not listed on /e/n/i[2], and I didn't change the default
configuration for /etc/NetworkManager/nm-system-settings.conf[3].

grepping for nm-system-settings on syslog doesn't show anything out of the
ordinary (for me at least):

Aug 16 11:35:19 gonzalo nm-system-settings: Added default wired connection 'Auto eth0' for /org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/net_00_15_c5_58_dc_c1

To discard hardware malfunction, if I issue a dhclient command on eth0, the
device appears on ifconfig and the network does work. nm-applet still doesn't
see it, though.
