The output of devicekit-daemon could also be useful.
Run (as root):
# kill `pidof /usr/lib/devicekit-disks/devkit-disks-daemon`
# /usr/lib/devicekit-disks/devkit-disks-daemon
and insert a cd/data and try to eject?

Is it possible to eject the drive as root with "eject /dev/cdrom"?
Does it happen for audio and/or data cd/dvds?
