Just so I understand you correctly: Are you saying that *every* time you get
such a discharge event, your screen blinks (at the exact same time)?

You can run:
# killall upowerd
# /usr/lib/upower/upowerd
to get a bit more debug output.
Could you mark in the log, when the screen blinks.
