--- NEW FILE: README.soundblaster ---
The mute script for soundblaster cards
      ======================================

First of all:

There are many soundblaster cards available,
therefore this script may not work without
    modification!

To test the script you may call the script by
hand with

    soundblaster.sh on

respectivly

    soundblaster.sh off

There should no error message in both cases and
the soundblaster should be unmuted respectivly
muted in a very short time (less than one ms).

The script assumes that your soundblaster card
is the first card in the system (card number 0).
See line 30 to change this.

If this does not work for your card you may
do a copy of the script and modify this copy
at line 41ff. Does your soundblaster provide
3D effects or not? Does your soundblaster provide
special surround effects or not?

If this does not help you may read the output of

    amixer controls | less

to see, if you have other switches. To route
AC-3 data through a soundblaster card, there
should be _no_ modifications of the data stream
because this would break the AC-3 data therein.
Therefore the _raw_ data should be provided
to the S/P-DIF coax or optical out.
Try out to modify the found switches by using

    alsamixer

within a terminal, remember the reqired switches
and modify your copy of the soundblaster.sh script.

Last note:

Please provide your working script by email with
a short description of your soundblaster card.
