vdr-plugin-alcd: volume level not displayed

alcd stopped showing the volume level at some point today.
meaning I always see
[            ]
displayed, no matter what level the volume is at.

Strangely enough the following do work
  - muting displays [    -- MUTE --    ] as expected
  - changing volume itself does work
  - the OSD for the volume displays correctly

Changing the progress character from '#' to something else in the VDR config
OSD has no effect.

As the vdrportal wiki has no search ATM I cannot say for sure if others have
experienced this, a google for 
  alcd Lautstärke site:vdrportal.de
and
  alcd volume site:vdrportal.de
did not yield any useful results.
 
It might very well be that this is a conflict with one of the plugins I have
installed. They are:
