The syntax highlighter trips up on the following.  I was unable to
figure out exactly why.

vim: syntax/sh.vim gets confused by a construct

Modern versions of Vim appear to have fixed this bug.  None of the
constructions cited in the bug logs are highlighted incorrectly as of
vim/vim-common 1:6.3-031+2.
